As reported by the Financial Times, according to LinkedIn analysis, Apple has recruited “dozens” of AI experts from Google, focusing on areas like image recognition and virtual reality. The lab’s initial focus was on these areas and has since expanded to include fundamental AI technologies, including new multimodal models for text and images.
Apple has been actively publishing papers on AI and is currently hiring for generative AI roles in Zurich. Interestingly, one of their offices is so secretive that even neighboring companies are unaware of its existence.
With the recruitment of key names from Google, including the likes of Samy Bengio and Ruoming Pang, Apple’s AI team now comprises former key figures of the tech giant’s AI division. However, it’s worth noting that there have been departures from Apple as well, such as the return of Deep-Learning pioneer Ian Goodfellow to Google due to changes in Apple’s remote work policy.
How will Apple’s expansion of AI expertise in Europe impact the future of AI innovation and technology? 🤔
